Geneva Introduces Free Public Transport Amid Pollution Spike

Geneva has made public transport free for the first time in Switzerland to curb emissions during a sharp rise in ozone pollution.
According to cantonal authorities, ozone levels have exceeded the safety threshold of 180 μg/m³ in 24 hours. On Tuesday, temperatures hit 37°C, with hot, cloudless conditions allowing pollutants to accumulate.
From Wednesday until further notice, buses, trams, trains, and boats require no tickets, with inspections suspended. Additionally, between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., only low-emission vehicles are allowed in the city centre.
