EU makes progress towards 2030 zero pollution targets
In March, the European Commission and the European Environment Agency (EEA) published reports on the EU's progress towards the 2030 zero pollution targets. Although air quality is improving and pollution from marine debris and pesticides is declining, overall pollution levels remain too high. Problems with harmful noise, microplastics and pollution associated with agricultural fertilisers are particularly noticeable. Implementing the principles of a circular economy and fully implementing existing environmental legislation will be key to achieving the EU's goals. Further action is needed to protect human health and ecosystems and ensure that zero emissions are achieved by 2030.
